Data Model Authorizations
The Data Model Authorizations page lets administrators control access and permissions for each data model in SEI. Here, you can assign roles and set permission levels for both groups and individual users, specifying who can access, view, or edit each data model.
By default, when you add authorizations to a data model, the Data Model Role, Authorization Display Level, and Authorization Edit Level are set to the default values configured for each user or group. You can override these values at the data model level.
You can manage authorizations in three ways using the Manage dropdown list at the top of the page:
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Data Models | Select a data model to see and manage the users and groups authorized to access it. |
| Groups | Select a group to manage which data models it can access and with what permissions. |
| Users | Select a user to view and update the data model authorizations they have been assigned. |
Managing authorizations by data model, group, or user lets you grant access only to the appropriate individuals or teams—supporting security and compliance best practices.
Always configure data model authorizations at the group level rather than at the user level whenever possible.
When to use data model authorizations
- Enforcing security and data privacy: Control exactly who can access or modify each data model.
- Meeting compliance requirements: Restrict sensitive data so only authorized personnel have access.
- Simplifying permissions management: Leverage both group-based and user-based assignments for efficient and flexible control.
Page layout
The Authorized Data Models section displays data models that are explicitly granted to a user, independent of group membership.
| Panel | Description |

| Groups | Lists all groups. Select a group to manage its data model permissions. |
| Authorized Groups | Shows groups that currently have access to the selected data model (or model access for the selected group/user), with their associated roles and permission levels. |
| Users | Lists all users. Select a user to see their data model authorizations or to manage their access. |
| Authorized Users | Shows users that are currently authorized for the data model (or for the selected group), including their specific roles and permission levels. |

- From the main list, select the user, data model, or group you want to configure.

- In the Users panel, select a user (for individual assignment).
- Use the right arrow (>) button to move the selected group or user into the Authorized Groups or Authorized Users list.
- For each authorized entry, set the desired Data Model Role, Authorization Display Level (view), and Authorization Edit Level (edit) using the available dropdowns or input fields.

If a user is part of multiple groups and all these groups are authorized to the same data model, the user is granted the highest display and edit level from any group, and their roles are merged.
Example
When a user is a member of multiple groups, their permissions for a data model are calculated as follows:
Display Level: The user receives the highest display level granted by any group.
- Group A grants display level
20. - Group B grants display level
40. - Result: The user is assigned display level 40.
Roles: The user is allowed any action permitted by any group (role permissions are merged).
- Group A allows Print only.
- Group B allows Create New Worksheet only.
- Result: The user can Print and Create New Worksheet for the data model.
