Visualizations

There are different types of visualizations available in SEI, but they all use the same features for opening, saving, and sharing a visualization.

What is a visualization

A visualization is an effective way to display data in a visual or report format, helping you quickly understand and interpret your data. You can create different types of visualizations based on your preferred method of data analysis. The available types include Views, Dashboards, Reports, and Workbooks.

Views

Views provide a way to display and organize data in a format that best suits your needs. They consists of visual representations such as worksheets or various charts, allowing you to explore and analyze data from different perspectives. A view helps transform raw data into insightful, accessible visual formats that make it easier to understand trends, patterns, and relationships.

Dashboards

Dashboards enable you to consolidate multiple views, including Worksheets and various Chart types, into a single, interactive visualization. They pull data from different Data Models, allowing you to analyze information from multiple perspectives. Dashboards display data in various formats based on the type of analysis needed, with filters applied across all views. They provide a clear snapshot of business performance to support quick, informed decisions. You can create dashboards at an organizational level or tailor them for specific departments and goals.

Reports

Reports combine multiple Worksheets into a single, structured visualization. They are specifically useful for creating Financial Reports or Sales Reports that require a title, multiple Worksheets, custom Calculated Columns, and filters for accurate data analysis. The Worksheets can originate from different Data Models and contain various columns.

Workbooks

Workbooks offer a powerful and interactive reporting tool that combines familiar Excel features with custom SEI features. They enable you to access your data and create efficient, accessible visualizations. Workbooks are ideal if you need a flexible, spreadsheet-like interface for analyzing data, performing calculations and building structured reports with advanced customization options. They are especially useful for detailed financial analysis or highly tailored reports that require dynamic interactions.

Open visualization dialogs

When you open a visualization, different types of dialogs can be configured to appear before it loads. These dialogs populate or filter the displayed data based on your input.

You can configure the following dialogs when opening a visualization:

Save and Save As

All visualizations include a standard dialog, enabling you to either Save the current version or create a copy using the Save As option, depending on your permissions.

When saving a visualization, the following options are available:

Share and Collaborate

When working with visualizations, you can use several built-in options to share the opened visualization.

You can share a visualization through these options:

Rerfresh Data

Update your visualization with the latest information from the data source. Use it to retrieve new or changed data without reopening the visualization. To learn more, see Refresh Data.

Sample Mode

When you open a visualization, you can choose to load a limited amount of data to edit faster without waiting for the full dataset to load. To learn more, see Sample Mode.
