View Organizer
The View Organizer controls the structure and layout of a view. It gives you the tools to manage which fields are shown, how they are organized, and how the data is displayed.
Main sections of the View Organizer
The View Organizer is divided into three main areas, each responsible for structuring a different part of the view:
- Groups/Categories: Define the fields that organize and group data along the rows. These fields determine the main breakdown or categorization in the view.
- Pivots: Define the fields that calculate and summarize data.
- Columns/Series: Define the fields that organize data across columns. These fields are often used to compare or break down data across different series.
Types of fields in the View Organizer
| Type of Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Dimension | Fields used to segment and analyze numerical data (measures). Typically answer Who, What, When, Where, or How. |
| Measure | Numerical values used in calculations, aggregations, and other mathematical operations. |
| Description | Fields that provide extra context for dimensions to improve understanding. |
What to do in the View Organizer
- Add and arrange fields: Drag and drop fields into the Groups/Categories, Columns/Series, or Pivots sections. The order of the fields determines how the data is structured and displayed in the view.
- Group/Category and Pivot fields: Fields can be arranged as Group/Category or pivot fields to create a more meaningful and organized layout. Using Group/Category lets you bring related data together, while pivoting transforms rows into columns for better comparison.
- Access additional field options: Right-clicking a field within the View Organizer provides quick access to additional configuration options, allowing you to customize the view without navigating away from the organizer.
